Gram Stain Quiz for Friday

Case:
Three days old male baby from Germany has Sepsis. Cerebrospinal fluid specimen was taken and gram stain was made (image below).

  1. What are the findings?
  2. What could be the diagnosis?



















Correct answer: Gram positive rods 3+ and polymorphonuclear leukocytes 1+.
This patiet has meningitis caused by Listeria monocytogenes.
